Karur stampede: Authorities have registered a case against the driver of TVK chief Vijay’s campaign vehicle; the Special Investigation Team has initiated an inquiry.

A case has been filed against the driver of actor-politician Vijay’s campaign vehicle concerning an accident that allegedly occurred while en route to the Karur rally on September 27, where a stampede resulted in the deaths of 41 individuals, according to police reports.

Police have registered a case against the driver of TVK chief Vijay’s campaign vehicle in relation to the accidents on September 27.

The FIR has also included the campaign vehicle of TVK chief, as stated by the authorities.

The case pertains to an incident involving numerous fans of Vijay who were riding their motorcycles closely alongside the campaign bus, presumably to catch a glimpse of the star, and were involved in an accident that allegedly included the campaign vehicle. A video clip purportedly depicting this unusual accident has been broadcast by various television channels and widely circulated on social media.

The High Court has raised concerns regarding the lack of action taken against the bus driver for their alleged involvement in the accident while heading to Karur, where a stampede during the rally resulted in 41 fatalities and approximately 60 injuries.

In its ruling, the Court stated, “It was further brought to the attention of this Court that the videograph presented by the learned senior counsel for the petitioner, which has also been extensively circulated in both print and visual media, clearly indicates that the bus transporting Vijay, the leader of the political party, was implicated in an accident.”

“The footage clearly shows that two motorcycles were involved in the accident, and that the bus driver, upon witnessing the incident, fled the scene,” the High Court noted.

Additionally, another accident occurring at the rear of the bus has also been recorded in a video clip, as observed by an individual seated on the front left side of the bus. In both cases, the respondent police have not registered a First Information Report for the hit-and-run offenses, the court remarked.

“This Court expresses its profound dismay and concern regarding the authorities’ failure to take appropriate action.”
